Introduction
Dominica is an island paradise that’s not quite as well-known as its neighbors, but it should be. It’s a place where you can enjoy both a vibrant city life and laid-back beach vibes. Here are just five reasons why you should visit Dominica next time you’re looking for a vacation destination:
The waterfalls.
There are many waterfalls on the island. They’re a popular tourist attraction and can be found in many different locations throughout Dominica, from lush rainforests to scenic overlooks above the ocean. Some are very accessible and easy to get to; others are more difficult or dangerous to visit.
Some of the most well-known waterfalls include:
- Boeri Lake Waterfall – This waterfall is located near Roseau, making it easily accessible by car or bus (and still within city limits). It’s not too high up in elevation so you don’t need any special equipment or training if you want to hike up there–just wear good shoes!
- Morne Diablotin National Park – This park has several hiking trails that lead through lush forest areas where you might spot some wildlife like monkeys or hummingbirds along with stunning views of rainforest scenery below your feet when standing at certain lookout points along each trail’s route (like atop Morne Diablotin itself).
The rainforest.
The rainforest is one of Dominica’s main attractions. It has been named as one of the world’s second largest rainforests and is home to hundreds of different types of plants and animals, including rare species like the Sisserou parrot. Visitors can go on guided tours through the forest or simply wander through on their own. There are also many hiking trails that provide stunning views over waterfalls and cliffs, making this an excellent place for relaxation and unwinding after a busy day exploring other parts of the island.
The volcano.
The volcano is a very popular tourist attraction, and there are many tours that allow you to get up close and personal with this dormant beast. The last time it erupted was over 300 years ago, so you won’t have to worry about lava raining down on your head or anything like that.
The island’s official motto is “A Place To Discover”–and it really does live up to its name!
The beaches.
Dominica has many beautiful beaches, both on the coast and in a bay. The island is surrounded by water, so you can swim or snorkel almost anywhere. The water is warm and clear, with white sand that feels like powder under your feet.
The night sky.
If you’re an avid stargazer, Dominica is the place for you. In fact, it has one of the clearest skies in the world. The night sky is beautiful with a lot of stars and it’s common to see the Milky Way clearly at night due to minimal light pollution. This makes it ideal for stargazing and seeing other celestial bodies like planets or constellations like Orion’s Belt–you may even spot some shooting stars! If you want to explore deeper into space, there are guided tours available that take visitors through a telescope viewing session where they can view galaxies far away from our own Milky Way galaxy (the closest one being Andromeda).
Dominica is a beautiful and fun island to visit!
The island has been named by National Geographic as one of the top 10 islands in the world to visit this year, and it’s easy to see why. With its lush rainforests, sparkling waterfalls, and stunning beaches–not to mention its rich history–Dominica is an ideal destination for travelers looking for something off-the-beaten path.
Conclusion
Dominica is a beautiful island with so much to offer. The waterfalls, rainforest, volcano and beaches are all great reasons to visit Dominica. But one of my favorite things about this island is how dark the night sky gets! I hope this post inspires you to visit Dominica soon!
