The Great Wall of China is one of the world’s most famous landmarks, and it should be on every traveller’s bucket list. The wall was built over a period of 2,000 years to defend against attacks from nomadic tribes in northern China. Today, there are many sections open to tourists; these include Badaling (close to Beijing), Mutianyu (just outside of Beijing) and Jinshanling (in Hebei province).
The best way to see this UNESCO World Heritage Site is by hiking it yourself–but if that sounds like too much work or you don’t have time for an overnight trip into the mountains then opt instead for taking a cable car up onto one section or another so that you can snap some Instagram-worthy photos from above without having to worry about getting lost!
Angor Wat Temple Complex, Cambodia
Angor Wat Temple Complex is located in Siem Reap, Cambodia. It’s the largest religious monument in the world and a UNESCO World Heritage site. The temple was built between 1113 and 1150 by King Suryavarman II as an act of devotion to Vishnu (the Hindu god). Angkor Wat means “temple city” or “city of temples.” The complex consists of four concentric enclosures: an outer walled enclosure with moats; a middle enclosure containing water reservoirs; an inner enclosure where the king lived with his family; and finally, a sanctuary tower at its center that rises above all else–a giant pyramid shaped building known as Bayon Temple.
Angkor Wat is breathtakingly beautiful on its own but when paired with other temples nearby such as Ta Prohm or Preah Khan it makes everything even better!

This trail takes approximately 45 minutes to an hour depending on your pace and covers just over 2 miles (3 kilometers).
The Parthenon in Greece
The Parthenon is a temple on the Acropolis of Athens, Greece. It was dedicated to the goddess Athena and built in 447 BC. The architecture is Doric and it was designed by Ictinus with the help of Callicrates, who worked on its sculptures with Chares. It’s one of the most famous examples of classical architecture in the world, having been used as an inspiration for many other structures including St Paul’s Cathedral in London and Washington DC’s Capitol Building.
The Parthenon was originally built as a religious shrine for worshipping Athena (the patron deity of Athens) but later became part of a larger complex when additional buildings were constructed around it during Roman times; these included a theatre which seated 15000 people!
