Introduction
Africa is a continent full of diverse, incredible places. From the bustling cities of Lagos and Johannesburg to the vast plains of Kenya and Tanzania, from the northern deserts to the southern coastlines, every country on this massive landmass has something pretty special to offer any traveler. However, even as Africa becomes increasingly popular among travelers—and for good reason—there are still plenty of destinations that don’t get as much attention as they should. For example:
Madagascar
Madagascar is a beautiful island that has a diverse landscape, rich culture and wildlife. It is affordable and easy to get to.
Madagascar has many things to offer its visitors including:
- A beautiful coastline with white sand beaches
- An abundance of wildlife including lemurs, crocodiles and chameleons (just to name a few)
- UNESCO World Heritage Sites such as the Tsiribihina River National Park which is home to many birds including rare species such as blue coua or Madagascar cuckoo-roller (Coracina bicolor). It also hosts an impressive array of aquatic life such as hippopotami or Nile crocodiles. If you love hiking then this should be on your list too! The park has several trails ranging from one hour walks up until five days long treks through pristine landscapes where you’ll find waterfalls plunging into pools full of colorful tropical fish before finally reaching lakes high up in mountains surrounded by bamboo forests filled with exotic flowers & ferns along side giant baobabs trees dating back thousands years old…
Botswana
Botswana is a country in Southern Africa. The population of Botswana is 2 million people, and its capital city is Gaborone. The currency of Botswana is pula (p).
Rwanda
Rwanda is a small country in Africa that gets overshadowed by its larger neighbors, but it’s worth exploring. The people are very friendly and welcoming, the food is delicious and there are many natural attractions to explore.
Rwanda has some of the best hiking trails in Africa–and they’re not too difficult to get to either! If you’re looking for something more challenging than what you’d find at home, consider taking on Mount Nyiragongo or Mount Bisoke (both volcanoes). For something more relaxing but still beautiful, try out Nyungwe Forest National Park or Akagera National Park where you can see wild animals wandering around freely without fear of being attacked by poachers!
Mozambique
Mozambique is a country in the southeast of Africa, bordered by Zimbabwe and South Africa to its north, Zambia to its northwest and Malawi to its west. It has a tropical climate, with two rainy seasons and two dry seasons. The country is popular with tourists but has not yet reached the level of popularity of other African countries such as Kenya or South Africa.
Namibia
Namibia is a land of vast open spaces and wild landscapes, where nature is at its most beautiful. It’s home to the world’s oldest desert; Sossusvlei (meaning “vlei” or lake in Afrikaans) was formed by sand dunes that were once part of an ancient lake.
It also has some of the most spectacular sand dunes in Africa, including Dune 45 which stands at 550 meters high–the tallest dune on earth!
South Africa
South Africa is a great place to visit for the whole family. The country has many different types of attractions, including national parks, game reserves and beaches. There are also plenty of activities to do while you’re there including hiking, horse riding and bird watching.
There are so many things that make South Africa an ideal destination for travellers looking for something new and exciting!
The continent of Africa is full of incredible lesser-known destinations.
Africa is home to some of the most stunning landscapes and wildlife in the world, but it’s also home to many lesser-known destinations that deserve your attention. Here are some of our favorites:
This city has a lot going for it–a thriving arts scene, an active nightlife and great restaurants. Plus there’s plenty of history here; you can visit sites linked to Cecil Rhodes (the British colonialist who founded Rhodesia), as well as buildings designed by Herbert Baker (Rhodes’ chief architect). And if you’re looking for more than just sightseeing? Try horseback riding or go on safari at Hwange National Park!
Conclusion
This list is by no means exhaustive, and there are many other amazing destinations in Africa that we didn’t have room for. But we hope that these five countries will give you an idea of what’s possible when it comes to exploring the continent.
