Introduction
If you’re looking for an adventure-filled vacation, then look no further than Indonesia. Whether you want to hike volcanoes, scuba dive in crystal-clear waters, or explore the tropical jungles of Borneo, there’s something here for everyone. Here are some of our picks for must-visit places in Indonesia:
Bromo
Bromo is a volcanic region in East Java, Indonesia. The area is known for its volcanoes and the Tengger caldera. Bromo is an active volcano and has erupted several times since its first recorded eruption in 1847. The best time to visit Bromo is between May and October
Manado
Manado is a city in North Sulawesi, Indonesia. It’s the capital of North Sulawesi province and is known for its cuisine, beaches and diving opportunities.
The city’s main port is Bitung, which has ferries to Tual (Maluku Islands), Gorontalo and Bitung Barat (North Sulawesi).
Lombok
The island of Lombok is a great place to go for hiking, surfing and diving. The island has several volcanoes including Mount Rinjani which is one of Indonesia’s most popular hiking destinations. It also has beautiful beaches such as Senggigi Beach and Kuta Beach that are perfect for surfing or relaxing on the sand.
If you’re feeling adventurous, why not try diving at one of Lombok’s reefs? There are many different options depending on your level of experience: beginners can take part in introductory scuba lessons while advanced divers can dive deeper into caves with strong currents where there are freshwater sharks hiding out (not really).
Flores
Flores is a small island in Indonesia, located just off the east coast of Java. It’s the largest island in the Lesser Sunda Islands and has a population of about 1.8 million people. Flores has many beautiful beaches and volcanoes that can be explored as well as rainforests filled with exotic plants and animals.
Flores is famous for being home to Komodo National Park where you can see giant lizards called Komodo dragons that live on land but come out at night to hunt prey such as deer or wild boar (pig). If you’re feeling adventurous there are plenty of activities such as hiking through rainforests or swimming in cool waterfalls!
Borobudur
Borobudur is a Buddhist temple in Central Java, Indonesia. The monument consists of six square platforms topped by three circular platforms, and is decorated with 2,672 relief panels and 504 Buddha statues. The temple’s central dome supports the weight of the entire structure. Borobudur was built during the Sailendra Dynasty between 776 and 856 CE, although evidence suggests that it was used for centuries before and after its formal completion date.
The monument has been damaged by earthquakes over time; nevertheless it still retains much of its original shape and design despite extensive renovation work during the 19th century restoration led by Sir Thomas Stamford Raffles (1781-1826), British Resident of Java who served as governor general of Bencoolen (West Sumatra) from 1817 until 1823
Komodo National Park
Komodo National Park is a protected area in Indonesia. It is an archipelago of nine islands, the largest of which is Komodo. The park includes all of Komodos island except for a small section on its southeastern coast which belongs to Padar district and also includes five other islands (Rinca, Flores Island and two smaller uninhabited ones).
The park has an area of 1,817 square kilometres (702 sq mi) and was established as a national park in 1980 by presidential decree with an initial size of 1,460 square kilometres (560 sq mi).[1] It was then expanded to include Rinca Island as well as nearby marine areas such as Kepala Burung Peninsula and some small islands off Nusa Kode Beach.[2] The purpose for this expansion was mainly due to concerns over preservation efforts being hampered by mining activities proposed by Freeport McMoRan Copper & Gold Incorporated at its mining site located within those boundaries.[3][4]
Lake Toba
Lake Toba is the largest volcanic lake in the world. It’s located in North Sumatra, and it’s known for its rich biodiversity and cultural heritage. The lake itself has been around for millions of years, but there have been some major eruptions over time–including one that was the largest volcanic eruption in human history!
Lake Toba is a source of water for agriculture and tourism; it’s also home to many rare animals like orangutans, rhinos and tigers. There are several islands within Lake Toba that you can visit as part of your trip here: Batu Gajah Island (which has an active volcano), Pakan Baru Island (known for its black sand beaches), Samosir Island (home to Nias people)
Rinca Island, Komodo National Park
Rinca is a small island in the Komodo National Park, located off the coast of Flores Island. It’s best known for being home to thousands of Komodo Dragons and other animals that live there. The main attraction on this island is definitely seeing them in their natural habitat but there are also some other things you can do while visiting Rinca Island:
- Snorkeling and diving – There are many spots around Rinca where you can swim with sea turtles, manta rays and even sharks!
- Hiking – If hiking isn’t your thing then maybe this isn’t your place either but it’s still worth mentioning since most people don’t know about it so here goes nothing… There are lots of trails around this area with varying levels of difficulty ranging from easy hikes through mangrove forests (which make up most of Indonesia’s landmass) all the way up until mountain tops where panoramic views await those brave enough to climb them!
